Summer Vacation"Summer Vacation" was commissioned to preserve the image of a dad teaching his daughter how to use her new (pink-handled) fishing rod. The client gave me the photo at right, and after painting it once in the horizontal composition, I looked at it awhile and realized it lacked drama. So I painted it vertically, adding reflections and water in the foreground, and a small perch (at the client's request). I liked the subject--a little girl nestled in her father's arms, but I could almost feel her energy and excitement, with the kid's typical attitude of "Let me do it!" Enlarge>>

A favorite theme of mine...summer on Chautauqua Lake.
